Driving Goods Vehicles Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles is suitable for professional LGV drivers and is awarded by Edexcel. To qualify as an Apprentice, Learners must complete 7 NVQ modules at Level 2, achieve 2 Key Skills at Level 1 and complete an element on Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

NVQ Level 2

The DGV Level 2 NVQ consists of seven separate units:

  • Monitor the loading and unloading of the vehicle by others
  • Complete pre-driving preparations
  • Maintain the safety and security of the load, self and property
  • Maintain an awareness of driving conditions
  • Operate the vehicle systems
  • Drive the vehicle on public roads
  • Drive the vehicle in restricted spaces

Additional Units

There are 2 additional units that give candidates the opportunity to confirm their competence:

  • Unloading the vehicle
  • Coupling and uncoupling the vehicle
