IT and Telecoms Professionals Apprenticeship

This Apprenticeship programme is suitable for RLC Driver/Radio Operators and the Radio Operators of other Support Services trained at Defence School of Transport, Leconfield. Learners should have completed the minimum of a Basic Signaler’s Course and will be assessed in barracks, on exercise or during operations.

The Apprenticeship includes a Communication Technology Practitioner NVQ Level 2, two Key Skills and an element on Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

NVQ Level 2 Communications Technology Practitioner

The NVQ comprises different Areas of Competence (AOC) which are selected depending on the individual’s job role. Each AOC has a different points value. The sum of points of the AOC selected will determine the qualification gained, e.g. 100 points = Level 2, 180 points = Level 3 and 240 points = Level 4. Learners must build a portfolio of evidence to prove that they can operate their equipment in various operating and climatic conditions.

60% of the points must be achieved from the level being worked towards.

Level 2 BTEC Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles for Apprentices

This qualification provides the necessary skills, knowledge and competence required to operate as an ITC professional at level 2. The learner must achieve a minimum of 18 credits from the existing 2 units to achieve the award.

General

The DEFLOG VQ Trust has the necessary approvals to offer these awards and administer the apprenticeship framework. Although the learner can proceed at his or her own pace, realistically the framework will take up 18 months to achieve in the military environment. This apprenticeship is free of charge to all eligible Service learners.

Learners are encouraged to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship once they have completed their Apprenticeship.
